The electronics supply chain has been interrupted by a run of strong quakes that shook southwest Japan. Sony, Mitsubishi Electric and chip maker Renesas are among the firms with factories in the region.
At least four people perished as an effect of the Saturday morning quake, based on NHK television, and chopper TV pictures revealed buildings that were damaged and collapsed.
These are vital parts in smartphones and cameras, including Apple’s iPhone.
Mitsubishi Electric and Renesas Electronics have abutting plants in the prior making automotive processors Kumamoto and the latter power apparatus. As an effect of the quakes, Japanese media said, operations were frozen at both plants.
